Straight away, I’m going to be honest in saying that I nearly quit photography a few months ago. Last year was hard … it’s wasn’t an easy run! For those who know my life story – I was sick, sore, lost and confused.
This year has been a little different, as I’m feeling great … big thanks to my awesome team of medical people ;) But a few months ago, I was weighing up the options of a career change to social care. Being a photographer means I constantly have to find work, whereas being a social worker means a monthly salary, which as anyone who works for themselves knows… that sounds nice and simple!
Spirituality has always been a very big thing for me. I have a deck of oracle cards that I quite often ask questions to, and they quite often come back with startlingly good answers. One of the cards that I kept picking for my career wobbles was ‘Why‘.
Motives driving intention; the power of knowing the ‘why’.
There is great power in understanding your motives right now. The oracle asks you to be very clear about why you’re asking this question, looking for this answer, behaving in this way, and, most important, making this choice. Knowing your Why is the key to fulfillment. When you are clear about it, your intention will then be a magnet for miracles. Motives define the nature of your experience – when you think about something, feel it, and then act on it. This invisible why is the life-force energy with the seed, which brings it to life and holds the potential for growth.
Are you driven by a desire to serve? Does your prosperity impact the greater good? When you envision your most prosperous life, are you guided by a sense of purpose or by a need to make money, acquire things, save for the future … all of these things? No motive is good or bad, but having hidden agendas hidden from yourself will lead to disappointment and possibly failure. Be clear about why you want the things you do. If the motives are true, accept them. If not, change them.
I still picked up my camera nearly every day, usually to take photos of dogs … which, in the end, answered the question of my job dilemma. Though, I made a deal with the universe … If I signed up to have a studio, I’d continue my Reiki training and practice freely on people. Yay, I’m doing a Reiki II attunement next month!
Happy to say, I am sooo excited and filled with energy for the choice I’ve made!
Anyways, people have commented about how much money can me made from a single studio shoot. Great! …But I just want to put it out there right now, that is not my motivation for this (ad)venture. I want to create experiences that are so much fun for people, that they walk away inspired and content!
Those are my motives:
- Doing good for people / providing some sort of beautiful quality to the world.
- Give back.
- Earn a living.
